Abstract

In the first two decades of the 21st century, political forces known as new right-wing movements have developed. Specific characteristics define these movements in their relationship with democratic processes, having, perhaps, as the most novel singularity, the use of social protest as a tool to contest power when these spaces are part of the opposition to the government. In relation to this point, this article compares the actions of PRO in Argentina and VOX in Spain, political parties in different continents under the same global scenario such as the protests against the health strategies implemented by governments in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. The characteristics that these new right-wing parties share and the specific traits of each political space are analyzed and their action mechanisms identified. In the same way, the speeches of the main referents of each space are examined and the slogans raised during the demonstrations are compared to determine the fields of conflict in which they are anchored. These analysis methods allow us to appreciate many of the similarities that PRO and VOX present in the use of social protest, regardless of the historical and geographical particularities in which each space takes place.
