Abstract
The objective of this thesis is inquiring about the policies of teaching initial reading and writing that became with the recovered democracy in 1983, when Raúl Alfonsín was elected president.
Thus, theoretical productions and educational research on main problems detected among teaching and learning how to read and write, that took place during the first years of democracy, are traced.
Simultaneously, official documents accounting educational policies concerning teaching initial reading and writing effectively implemented are analysed, reflecting in a way intentions of the democratic government on this respect.
Finally, pretending getting to know the impact of the implementation of these policies, initial reading scenes configured in this period are particularly analysed.
