Abstract

This thesis is based on the report format of a research project under current regulations, and was inspired by the ideas and findings of the integrative monograph for my specialization. Those ideas make me to point up the discourse about the crisis in college now, through the analysis of the concepts that are built around it, and especially on the proposals for overcoming it. For this purpose, I decided to track the views of various actors, who are part of the university community, about this issue and the changes that are needed.

From this perspective, I’ve analyzed the themes found, as a production of knowledge and discourse, in the context in which they are produced: a public university about a state and a segmented, differentiated, society in which the university now has no the legitimacy that had historically.

The central findings were: if a core of the problem is within the university area, a different kind of university is possible with the university staff, working on the definition of university, as a starting point. The functions of the university, training, extension, and production of knowledge, are concepts to discuss and determine. To go deeply into the tripartite government model, to increase the democratization of the public university, is the political principle from which we can make the change.
