Ciudad de Buenos Aires Temporal Coverage Temporal characteristics of the resource. 2004-2015 Description An account of the resource Diversos estudios realizados tanto a nivel internacional (Breen, 2004; Erikson y Goldthorpe, 2002; Hout y DiPrete, 2006) como regional (Solís y Boado, 2016) han llegado a un consenso amplio que postula, entre varios aspectos, la asociación persistente entre orígenes y destinos de clase, así como niveles similares de fluidez social. Específicamente para el caso argentino, los recientes aportes en el campo (Benza, 2012; Dalle, 2016; Jorrat, 2016; Pla, 2016; Quartulli, 2016), han permitido definir los rasgos que asume la movilidad en la estructura social argentina actual: rigidización de la estructura de clase, recomposición de la clase trabajadora, predominancia de la movilidad de corta distancia, vigencia del logro educativo como mecanismo de ascenso social, entre otros. Por otro lado, diversos aportes se han realizado a partir del estudio de la estructura de clases, en tanto factor explicativo y estructurador de diversas dimensiones de la desigualdad social. Algunas investigaciones dan cuenta de la reversión de ciertas tendencias entre las clases sociales a partir del cambio en el modelo de acumulación ocurrido entrada la década del 2000: aumento de la clase obrera calificada, de la clase media rutinaria y de los profesionales (Benza, 2012; Fachelli, 2013). Por su parte, dichos trabajos evidencian un proceso de disminución de la distancia existente entre las clases sociales, medida a partir de los ingresos percibidos, como correlato del continuo achicamiento de la desigualdad social a lo largo del período (Benza, 2012; Chávez Molina y Sacco, 2015; Dalle, 2012; Fachelli, 2013; Maceira, 2016; Pla, Rodríguez de la Fuente, y Sacco, 2018). De esta forma, en esta tesis intentamos poner en diálogo ambas tradiciones (estudios de movilidad social y análisis de clase) a los fines de comprender el modo en que los orígenes sociales pueden dar cuenta de las desigualdades en torno a las condiciones de vida. Puntualmente partimos de la indagación del vínculo existente entre las diferenciales trayectorias intergeneracionales de clase (en tanto combinaciones posibles entre orígenes y destinos de clase) y el acceso desigual a diversos activos y recursos que son constitutivos del bienestar material de los hogares. Asimismo, frente a la especificidad de otros estudios que analizan en su conjunto al Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires (AMBA), esta tesis propone un “recorte espacial” sobre la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (CABA), debido a sus características y dinámicas propias que la diferencian del resto del aglomerado, convirtiéndola en una “ciudad de clases medias” (Benza, 2016). El recorte temporal abarcará el período 2004-2015, representativo de lo que se ha denominado “modelo neodesarrollista”. En tanto dimensiones del bienestar material, estudiaremos, el nivel de ingresos monetarios, el acceso a la propiedad de la vivienda y el nivel de consumo de los hogares. Teóricamente, partimos desde un abordaje de clase de tipo “relacional”, síntesis de los enfoques neo-weberianos y neo-marxistas, al considerar que la sociedad se encuentra estructurada en torno a clases sociales en un sistema de interdependencia (Pla, 2013) y constituidas principalmente en la esfera económica. Medimos empíricamente el concepto de clase operacionalizando la propuesta elaborada por Torrado, a partir de la reconstrucción del nomenclador de la posición socio-ocupacional para el estudio de la estructura social argentina (CFI, 1989; de Ipola y Torrado, 1976; Sacco, 2016; Torrado, 1992a, 1998). El abordaje metodológico que proponemos en esta tesis es específicamente cuantitativo, utilizándose diversas fuentes de datos en función de los objetivos del trabajo y de las limitaciones que se presentan: Encuesta de Movilidad Social y Opiniones de la Sociedad Actual (2012-2013), Encuesta Anual de Hogares (2004-2015), Encuesta Nacional de Gastos de Hogares (2004-2005) y Encuesta Nacional sobre la Estructura Social (2014-2015). Several studies carried out both internationally (Breen, 2004, Erikson and Goldthorpe, 2002, Hout and DiPrete, 2006) and regionally (Solís and Boado, 2016) have reached a broad consensus that postulates, among several aspects, the persistent association between origins and class destinations, as well as similar levels of social fluidity. Specifically for the local case, the recent contributions in the field (Benza, 2012, Dalle, 2016, Jorrat, 2016, Pla, 2016, Quartulli, 2016), have allowed defining the features assumed by mobility in the current Argentine social structure: rigidization of the class structure, recomposition of the working class, predominance of short-distance mobility, validity of educational attainment as a mechanism of social promotion, among others. On the other hand, various contributions have been made from the study of class structure, as an explanatory and structuring factor of various dimensions of social inequality. Some investigations show the reversal of certain tendencies among social classes based on the change in the accumulation model that occurred in the 2000s: an increase in the skilled working class, the routine middle class and professionals (Benza, 2012 Fachelli, 2013). These works show a process of diminishing the distance between social classes, measured from the perceived income, as a correlate of the continuous shrinking of social inequality throughout the period (Benza, 2012, Chávez Molina and Sacco, 2015; Dalle, 2012, Fachelli, 2013, Maceira, 2016, Pla, Rodríguez de la Fuente, and Sacco, 2018). In this way, in this thesis we try to put into dialogue both traditions (studies of social mobility and class analysis) in order to understand the way in which social origins could account for the inequalities around living conditions. We start with the investigation of the link between the different intergenerational trajectories of class (as possible combinations between origins and class destinations) and the unequal access to various assets and resources that are constitutive of the material well-being of households. Also, compared to the specificity of other studies that analyze the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) as a whole, this thesis proposes a "spatial cut" on the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (CABA), due to its characteristics and its own dynamics that differentiate it from the rest of the agglomerate, converting it into a "middle class city" (Benza, 2016). The temporary cut will cover the period 2004-2015, representative of what has been called the "modelo neodesarrollista". As dimensions of material well-being, we will study the level of monetary income, access to home ownership and the level of consumption of households. Theoretically, we start from a class approach of "relational" type, synthesis of neo-Weberian and neo-Marxist approaches, considering that society is structured around social classes in a system of interdependence (Pla, 2013) and constituted mainly in the economic sphere. We empirically measured the concept of class by operationalizing the proposal elaborated by Torrado from the reconstruction of the nomenclature of the socio-occupational position for the study of the Argentine social structure (CFI, 1989, Ipola and Torrado, 1976, Sacco, 2016, Torrado , 1992, 1998). The methodological approach proposed in this thesis is specifically quantitative, using various data sources depending on the objectives of the work and the limitations that are presented: Survey of Social Mobility and Opinions of the Current Society (2012-2013), Annual Survey of Households (2004-2015), National Survey of Household Expenditures (2004-2005) and National Survey on Social Structure (2014-2015).
