Para ello se propone reconstruir el horizonte epocal y el contexto argumentativo a partir del cual se inscribieron los discursos intelectuales, a los fines de detectar cómo fue desarrollada la categoría de democracia desde las estrategias de recepción intelectual que permitieron observar la innovación y el cambio conceptual. Las condiciones de posibilidad que hicieron posible que la intelligentsia adoptase estas posiciones no son ajenas a un cambio en la figura histórica del intelectual, pues durante la década de 1980 se asiste a modificaciones en su identidad pública y social. En este contexto, los intelectuales producirán en el discurso teórico de las ciencias sociales una apertura hacia nuevas significaciones del concepto. Categorías y problemáticas anteriormente ausentes en sus desarrollos funcionan como generadoras de una nueva semántica. Así, el debate intelectual se estructurará y ordenará alrededor de la tensión conceptual entre liberalismo y democracia, al tiempo que categorías como socialismo, populismo y república también ingresarán al debate intelectual en el contexto de una redefinición de las categorías históricas utilizadas y aplicadas en diferentes momentos y de diferentes modos por las contribuciones de los intelectuales escogidas. The goal of the present investigation is to analyze the concept of democracy’s theoretical formation and detect its different meanings through the work of a group of social science intellectuals between 1980 and 1991. We thus propose to reconstruct the epochal horizon and the argumentative context within which the intellectual discourses were inscribed, in order to detect the development of the category of democracy from intellectual reception strategies demonstrating conceptual innovation and change. The conditions of possibility that permitted the intelligentsia to adopt these positions are not separate from changes the decade wrought on the historical figure of the intellectual, modifying both their public and social identity. In this context, the intellectuals created an opening towards new meanings of the concept in the theoretical discourse of the social science. Categories and problems previously absent in their writings work as generators of a new semantic. Thus, the intellectual debate became structured and ordered around the conceptual tension between liberalism and democracy, while categories such as socialism, populism, and republic also entered the intellectual debate in the framework of redefining historical categories utilized and applied in different moments and different ways by the contribution of the selected intellectuals.
