Abstract
The current work inquires into the experience of the territorial organization in the beginning of Barrio San Martín-Mendoza based on the reconstruction of the organization’s history and the resulting dispute of meaning from the perspective of Latin-American social movements. In order to do so, it analyzes the production of meaning and the role of politicalpedagogic practices in the construction of new social and political individuals. The investigation is centered in the social space of Barrio San Martín in Mendoza during three periods branded by the following milestones: origin (1930), consolidation (1959-1976) and decline (from 1976 forwards).
The study of this process of territorial organization in the outskirts of Mendoza started because it emerged as an option from the dominant orientations of that historical period and became an other experience in the province. Through this analysis, we try to assess how did two widely spread at a regional level processes were condensed: the catholic renovation and the political radicalization.
Our starting questions were the following: What practices and meanings came together so that the Barrio was shaped as a budding culture in the origins and consolidation of the communal organization? What meanings were disputed in the process of territorial organization and political dispute? What transformation did both of them -organization and educational experiences- suffered and what was the rapport between them through different historical periods?
In order to answer them, we analyzed the processes that took place in this territory from the social organization’s origins to the transformations and changes it went through regarding the ways of participation, the political-pedagogic conceptions, it’s correlation to and involvement in other educational/formative experiences; it’s relation with the State and different organizations. In order to fulfill this, we resolved to: analyze and understand the correlation between territorializes social movements and the production of meaning in Latin
America; reconstruct the path of it’s protagonists in the origins of the organization; identify the elements that came together for the experience in this Barrio to become an obliged reference when thinking the political territorial organization in Mendoza during the ’60 and ’70; register the transformations in the organization and formative experiences since the last military dictatorship.
The chapter structure is made up of four sections that relate to the origins of the experience, as in precedents of it; moment of genesis and individuals that gave it their special stamp; political characteristics of the historical moment: catholic renovation and political radicalization; consolidation of the “option” in the appreciation of the experience.
The methodology used comes from the field of cultural studies and, therefor, makes emphasis in the recovery and analysis of testimonies, written documental sources and systematic bibliography. The emphasis was made in the recovery of the voices of the individuals who participated in the experiential process and, through them, reconstruct a genealogy of the praxis.
