Abstract
The starting point for this work focuses on the promotion of the political campaign “Derribemos mitos,” launched on November 25th 2017 by the Gender and Sexual Diversity Directorate together with the Comunication and Press Directorate of the municipality of Pilar. In commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the proposal sought to break certain myths which justify violence or support social, political, cultural, or economic discrimination, trying to give women and the diverse community full access to their rights. However, the results were not as expected: the campaign began to generate controversy only one week after launching due to the format in which they presented the content of the message. Appearing on street signs, the propaganda attracted various criticisms and the posters had to be removed: under macho messages or myths that were supposed to be demolished, the real message appeared subordinate, in very small typeface, and barely visible.
This research aims to investigate the implicit considerations about today’s definition of feminism and women’s place in society, examined within the context setting of political communication, the devaluation of female work and feminist literature. I intend to frame the analysis by beginning with a theoretical journey, which allows, firstly, to historically locate the progressive loss of women’s protagonism in social life, followed by a description of the evolutionary stages of feminism and the obstacles faced today.
