Abstract

This work investigates the social meanings of ex combatant (war veteran) associations during the commemoration for the 30th Anniversary for the Falklands/Malvinas War. The selected organizations are the House of the War Veteran from the Argentine Republic and the Association of Malvinas War Veterans, who were part of the manifestation of April 2 in the memorial of the San Martín Square in the city of Buenos Aires. The analysis seeks to examine the processes of building political identities in each group and to envisage the memorial modalities of the rituals in which they participated. For this purpose, a descriptive approach is previously done: to the Falklands/Malvinas War as an historical fact, to the main characteristics of the associations and to the observed commemorations.
