Abstract
“The tourism condition: mapping the consumption culture in order to mitigate the urban museification” talks about the construction of a conceptual intervention strategy that allows the tourism approach with a critic and reflexive perspective. The focus of this thesis will be the theoretical-practical analysis about the urban museification as an integral process promoted by the tourism dispositive. This city promotion procedure is sign by the contradictions and paradoxes that appear in the constant tension between the global landscape standardization and the local tourists configurations. In fact, the analysis of this city revaluation will be very important to appreciate a lot of problematic nodes as the non-places proliferation, the territorial reconfigurations, the accumulation by dispossession, the creative destruction of the city, the gentrification and urban renovation process, the patrimonialization as a tourism resource and the potential of emblematic places; with all the baggage that implies.
To break down the proposed conceptual strategy, we are concentrated on vitalist narratives that cross over historically and spatially the urban constitution, making focus on the space production and tourist genealogy. Actually, tourism as a discipline gives us the cross-linking between space and image theories mixing multiple dimensions of consumption and spectacular museum exhibition. At the same time, this work will consist of two important tasks: the first one is about designing a temporal-space analytic tool that allows us to see a wide-open tourist perspective. The second one will give us certain moving alternatives and deactivation of tourism dispositive. In this way, we refer to the city as a cultural product, the culture as a strategic asset and the public space and the emblematic places as fields of urban political dispute.
Thus, with the approaching of the city trough cognitive mapping based on the assembly, this thesis proposes an open vision about visuality, technique and politics. In this way, we arrived to the conclusion through certain reflexions around Accelerationist Politics and the radicant wandering of a new global subject conceived as ‘semantic traveller’. These ‘radicant walks’ through the space in the Global Era, allow to blur and reconfigurate the geographic and temporal urban limits. Finally, we want to enrol with the politic dispute for the libidinal economy and the urban transduction in order to visualize a horizon of profanation and urban restitution for the people common use.
