Abstract
The relationship between migration and the mass medias is often approached from the analysis of the hegemonic media of the countries of destination and the enunciation, often pejorative, that the media´s do of the migrants. This Master's thesis in Communication and Culture proposes the approach the discourse enunciated by the migrants themselves by the analysis of the inmigrant media press.
Historically, in Argentina, migrant communities have been formed as such from different practices such as civic and religious celebrations, the preservation of native language, folk dances, cuisine, music. Within this broad range of practices, communities themselves have set out also the media: newspapers, radio and even television have been and are part of the resources that different communities have used to communicate among its members and to raise their voices in receiving societies.
The relevance of this thesis is to realize a discursive analysis of the front pages of newspaper Renacer by describing the rhetorical, thematic and enunciative features, using contemporary semiotics methods
Among the Latin American migrants, the Bolivian community is one of the largest in our country (233,464 in 2001), they have differents medias, including the newspaper Renacer. This tabloid is published in the Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina, since 1999 and is distributed throughout the national territory as well as in Bolivia.
The analysis of Renacer is to understand that this media are alternative because exposes literally the voice of the another historically denied. This publication promotes an alternative discourse fruit of his own construction and production own information. It also establishes an agenda against the violation of human rights such as discrimination, xenophobia and exploitation. Develope the political criticism and the right to information. Also has a particular style using antique cultural symbolism of Bolivia and native peoples. Renacer, in turn, is shaped as a social service that provides information and assistance to migrant issues of discrimination, citizenship, exercise of social and civil rights and constituted as a kind of cultural diffusion that spreads the native culture of Bolivian migrants.
The study of textual configurations of the front pages of the newspaper Renacer addressing the possible identity of the community in Bolivia in Buenos Aires, and allowed us to account for their political and cultural representations of their practices and tensions with the receiving society and into the same group. Renacer builds diverse identities of Bolivians in Argentina from four core areas such as nationalism, the appeal to nativism, immigrant status / abroad as well as the exercise of political rights.
In summary, Renacer, is established as a resource of identity and visibility at the receiving societies, as in the case of Argentina. This newspaper is a product (and promoter) of migrants as actors of urban transformation and identity builder.
