Abstract
This thesis raises a new explanation about the Chilean university collective action of the year 2011 from the analysis of student participation. Understood as a process of dissemination of the conception of education as a social right in a society that transformed the notion of prevailing education. This was based on the alteration of the informal structure of society that concerns the network formed by the interpersonal bonds of the individuals that compound it, that is, the union of the social networks of those who form the society. The socio-technological change characterized by the convergence of the Internet, mobile telephony, digital networks, and the massive adoption that individuals made, linked the social and technological due to the digital mediation of interpersonal ties. Which meant that the total or partial mediation of interpersonal relationships and social networks of individuals was done digitally, altering the informal structure of society. Making it redundant by offering more paths for information to go from one person to another and increased its transmission speed. Why did the university collective action of 2011 occur? The source that triggered the phenomenon was the existence of inequalities that compromise the entire society, which have their origin in the solutions implemented by the Chilean development model. In university education happened (and continues to happen) that individuals with the same number of years of study obtain very different salary income. This situation is critical because it corrodes the idea of educational merit, a pillar of the development model. Any fact that triggers the social discussion in Chile, potentially spreads the problem in society because the majority suffer it and the informal structure of the society, digitally mediated, allows it.
