Abstract
This thesis is about security forces with military characteristics, the modalities of their deployment and activity in various urban spaces of segregation of poverty and in particular, in informal popular neighborhoods. In the thesis I seek to answer the question of to what extent these deployments represent a new political rationality and specific government technology for these spaces and populations. The general objective of the thesis will be "to describe and analyze the focused deployment of the Gendarmería Nacional Argentina as a technology of government and pacification in two informal popular neighborhoods in the southern area of the City of Buenos Aires, between 2011 and 2019, giving account of its political rationality, operation and effects. The hypothesis is that in the last decade a new technology of government over impoverished and spatially segregated urban spaces and populations represented as “on the margins of the State” has emerged and has been consolidating, mainly based on targeted deployments with security forces.
