Abstract
This thesis reconstructs the history of Radio Noticias del Continente, a short-wave radio station that the Montoneros political-military organization installed and managed in Costa Rica between 1979 and 1981. From the secrecy that forced the confrontation with the dictatorship imposed in Argentina from 1976 , Montoneros sought to break by all means the fence of silence with which the military regime sought to isolate them from society as a whole. Radio Noticias del Continente was one of those means with which the organization tried to keep its presence alive in the political scene of those years. Starting from the reconstruction of the station's development, investigating the origins of the idea of transmitting from abroad until its final conflictive closure, the investigation enters the problematic field that makes up the media that are owned by guerrilla organizations. These types of experiences put in tension concepts that are key in the Western communication infosphere, such as "freedom of expression", highlighting the political conditions that limit communication actions. With this perspective as the axis, the thesis proposes a particular approach to the experience of Radio Noticias, investigating the relationship between the purposes that led Montoneros to promote a short wave station and the effective media action developed by it.
